Poster Project

So this is my project:

It is a poster for the band GWAR in the art nueveau style. I liked the contrast between the art style and the style of GWAR. GWAR is well known for their 80's monster movie aesthetic and their less than appropriate stage show. The writing is in french and mostly to be a place holder. 

I started by tracing out the lead singer. I then created the background graphic with a combination of circles and copy pasting. I then assembled everything together with the rectangles. To create the text graphic I traced around an image of the band logo, and replaced the text with an art nueveau font.

Halvetica: A Response

     I found the way in which different designers all reacted to the same font interesting. I especially enjoyed hearing about how designers (or at least some designers) views changed about Halvetica over time.  I feel that both views, those who champion it and its detractors, have merit. Sometimes a text needs to be used to express a feeling or a mood. Sometimes it just needs to stay out of the way. I also never realized how pervasive Halvetica is in modern life.

I pretty much just created a new logo from scratch.

I googled "too much botox" and chose a photo of Jenny McCarthy. I'm not even sure if she uses Botox, but the image was funny, so here we are. I drew the syringe freehand in illustrator.

What is your computer experience: I've used computers since the apple IIe. Mostly deal with PC's though. So I'm fumbling with having one mouse button at this moment!

Do you have experience with Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator? (None, beginner, intermediate, advanced...etc.) Please be specific: I'd say intermediate experience, some class time, mostly tinkering. Haven't used a current version of either Photoshop or Illustrator in nearly 10 years. Oh god I'm old.

What do you hope to learn from taking this class? Concepts of design, refresh on what is new in image processing. How to use a mouse with only one button (get accustomed to Macs).
